another LOST post

Okay, I wasn’t going to do it, but I just stumbled across a couple of blog entries that I thought were interesting and worth a read for all you LOST fans.  Over at Professor Beej; his is this one with some good points then there is this one, by his wife, whom I think gets to some really interesting points as well.

So then I was thinking about art school.  The LOST Finale reminds me of art school.  It reminds me because at the end of every semester in every class and studio we had to fill out evaluations.  These are pretty standard in college, they cover the class content, the instructor, the school.  Well, everyone’s favorite (sarcastic) section had to do with ambiguity.  I understood the point and I think many of my fellow students did as well, but it was just so exhausting.  “Did this class give you an appreciation for ambiguity and unanswered questions?”  “DO you see the value in ambiguity in theories and topics?”  Um.  I haven’t had a decent meal or a full night of sleep in a week.  How in the heck am I supposed to answer that???  I have a pretty solid thought that the students mainly just made cool designs with the bubbles they filled in and didn’t actually read or care about the questions.  It is art school after all.  We need things to be aesthetically pleasing, and if not pleasing then purposeful.  Ambiguity with purpose!

Ah. LOST.  LOST = Art School
